The web design industry has a wide quality spread. On one end, freelancers stack templates and push them live. On the other, large agencies bill enterprise rates for committee-driven work. Performance is part of the design, not a fix at the end
Core Web Vitals — LCP, INP, CLS — are scored from the user's browser on the user's device. A beautiful design that loads in 5 seconds on mobile already lost. We design within performance budgets: hero images sized for the viewport, custom fonts subset to the characters used, JavaScript deferred or eliminated, critical CSS inlined. The result is websites that score 95-100 on Lighthouse mobile and load below 1.5 seconds on a real phone.
Technical SEO comes built in, not as an upsell
Every website ships with sitemap.xml, robots.txt, semantic HTML, hreflang for multilingual, JSON-LD structured data (Organization, WebSite, BreadcrumbList, Article, Product, Service, FAQPage), Open Graph and Twitter Cards, descriptive alt text, accessible heading hierarchy, canonical URLs and proper handling of pagination and faceted navigation. SEO is not a separate module — it is how we build.
Accessibility from day one (WCAG 2.2 AA)
Web design that ignores accessibility excludes people and creates legal exposure. We design and build to WCAG 2.2 AA: keyboard navigation works, focus is visible, color contrast meets standard, alt text describes images, forms have labels and error messages, screen readers announce content correctly. Bilingual web design, EN/ES, native
Designing a multilingual website is harder than translating one. Spanish copy runs about 20% longer than English. Layouts that look balanced in EN break in ES. Hreflang has to be implemented correctly or Google routes the wrong page to the wrong audience. Our web design process
How a typical web design project runs at XPlus, week by week:
Discovery (week 1)
We learn your business, goals, audience, competitors and the user journeys the site must support. We come out with a one-page brief, a sitemap and a fixed scope and timeline. No surprise change orders later.
Information architecture (week 1-2)
Sitemap, URL structure, content inventory and low-fidelity wireframes for every page type. Reviewed with you before any visual design starts. This is where most failed redesigns get fixed before they happen.
Visual design (week 2-4)
High-fidelity designs in Figma. Design system with components, type scale, color tokens, spacing scale, interaction states. Light and dark themes if applicable. Reviewed and signed off page-by-page.
Front-end development (week 3-7)
Semantic HTML, accessible components, responsive layouts, performance budgets enforced. Built in Astro, Next.js or vanilla according to needs. CMS integrated. Staging environment available from day one for review.
QA, performance and SEO (week 7-8)
Cross-browser testing, accessibility audit (WCAG 2.2 AA), Core Web Vitals on real devices, structured data validation, Lighthouse pass, security headers configured. We deliver a measurable before/after report.
Launch and handoff (week 8)
Production deploy, DNS cutover, monitoring configured, CMS training for your team, written documentation handed over. We stay on call for two weeks of post-launch support included by default.

How long does a website design project take?
A small business website typically takes 3-5 weeks from kickoff to launch. A 15-30 page corporate site with CMS takes 6-10 weeks. A complex platform with bespoke functionality takes 10-16 weeks. Discovery is always week one — that determines everything else.
What CMS do you use?
It depends on the project. For fast static-first marketing sites, Astro with a headless CMS (Sanity, Strapi, Storyblok). For sites with many editors and traditional content workflows, WordPress headless. For e-commerce, Shopify or a custom stack with Stripe. We never use proprietary platforms that lock you in — you always get the source code.
Will my new website rank well in Google?
Technical SEO is part of every project at no extra cost. We deliver clean URL structure, sitemap.xml, robots.txt, hreflang for multilingual, JSON-LD structured data, Open Graph, Core Web Vitals optimization, semantic headings, descriptive alt text and accessible forms. Ranking depends on content and authority over time, but the technical foundation is set.
Is the website accessible?

Do you design bilingual websites in English and Spanish?
Yes — bilingual EN/ES is a native capability. We implement proper hreflang, separate URL structures (/en/ and /es/), CMS that supports both languages, and translation by humans not machines. We serve clients across the US, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Spain.
Will my website work on slow connections and old phones?
Yes. We measure Core Web Vitals on real devices and on throttled 3G connections. Images are optimized in modern formats (AVIF, WebP) with sized fallbacks, JavaScript is deferred or eliminated where possible, fonts are preloaded, and critical CSS is inlined. Most of our marketing sites load below 1.5 seconds on mobile.
Do you provide hosting?
We help you set up hosting on Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, Netlify or Hetzner depending on the case, and configure DNS, SSL, and CDN. The accounts always belong to you — we never lock you in to our infrastructure.
What happens after launch?
We offer maintenance retainers with clear SLAs: response time, monthly updates, security patches, content updates, performance monitoring. You can choose full retainer, hourly support, or self-manage with the documentation we deliver. There is no lock-in.
Do you write the website copy or do I need to provide it?
You can do either. We have copywriters who specialize in clear, conversion-focused web copy in English and Spanish, and we also work with copy you provide. If you bring the copy, we will give SEO and clarity feedback before the design phase.
Can I update the website myself once it is live?
Yes. Every website ships with a CMS that lets your team edit copy, images, blog posts and structured pages without touching code. We train your team during handoff and provide written documentation.
